Webinars (2010). The Family Institute and the NYS Office of Mental Health developed a three part series designed especially for licensed agency providers. The three webinars are an overview of the Consumer Centered Family Consultation model.

Webinar # 1: Consumer Centered Family Consultation: Engaging Consumers. Engaging the consumer is the first of two preliminary steps to conducting a Consumer Centered Family Consultation. This webinar provided practical information, techniques and tools for helping recipients to make informed decisions about including others in supporting their treatment and recovery.

Dr. Steven Lamberti

Dr. Steven Lamberti is Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Severe Mental Disorders Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center & Family Institute Principal Investigator. He received his MD from the University of Missouri, and completed his psychiatry residency and a neuropsychiatry fellowship at the University of Rochester where he currently oversees schizophrenia treatment and research. Dr. Lamberti’s career is dedicated to developing new treatment and rehabilitation approaches for adults with schizophrenia and other severe mental disorders, especially those at risk for repeated hospitalization, arrest and incarceration. An investigator in the NIMH Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness (CATIE) study, he has conducted numerous clinical drug trials evaluating both FDA-approved and novel medications. Dr. Lamberti has also received funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to develop and evaluate Project Link, a novel approach for preventing jail recidivism among high-risk adults with severe mental disorders. For their work with Project Link, Dr. Lamberti and his colleagues received the 1999 American Psychiatric Association’s Gold Award. Dr. Lamberti is also a recipient of the 2004 APA Van Ameringen Award for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and he is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Sherri L. Ladd, MHA

Sherri Ladd is the Information Analyst for the Family Institute for Education, Practice & Research. She assists with coordination of research projects & program evaluation which includes measurement instruments & preparing written surveys, data entry and administering research/assessment measures to staff & clients using research protocols. In addition, she is the Regional Project Coordinator for the Western New York region and oversees all aspects of the Family Institute’s training programs including co-leading didactic presentations across New York State She earned her Masters degree in Health Care Administration from Roberts Wesleyan College. She has worked at the University of Rochester for several years. She resides in Rochester and has two children and one grandson.

Anne Smith, LMSW

Anne Smith is the Family Institute Executive Director. She has been with the Family Institute since the beginning of its development in 2002. Anne was initially the Senior Program Coordinator, where she coordinated the implementation of the Multifamily Psychoeducation Group Initiative. In 2006 she was promoted to the Executive Director and spearheaded the development of the Spectrum of Family Services Initiative and all it entailed. Presently, Anne trains mental health professionals across New York State on how to implement evidenced-based practices in family psychoeducation, more specifically, the Consumer Centered Family Consultation Model. She also facilitates a variety of training and informational seminars.
Anne received her master’s degree in social work from the University at Buffalo where her concentration was in mental health, substance abuse and family work. She has also completed the Elements of Health Care Leadership Certificate Program from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2009. Anne has experience serving children and adults with limited capacities and mental illnesses as well as assisting their families. Anne lives in the Rochester area with her husband Kevin.
